My family and I moved to Escondido in 1973 and I have been involved in my community ever since, including serving as your Councilman. My vision for Escondido is outlined in the following key positions:
Ed Gallo speaking at the Asian Heritage Coalition Annual Meeting, San Diego 2010
FISCAL CONSERVATIVE - I led the council to increase our reserves from $4M to over $45M. During my absence that reserve is down to an alarming $11M. This trend must not and cannot continue. Redirecting and reducing spending and the size of government is my goal.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - We must restore our efforts to bring higher paying jobs to Escondido, as I had done. We must work to diversify our revenue stream. I will not support higher taxes to increase revenues. Reducing spending is where we start.
PENSION REFORM - A key ingredient for Escondido’s future financial stability and future employee’s retirement. We cannot sustain this path of spending.
SAFE CITY - I will continue to support the DUI/Traffic Safety checkpoints and I voted against a measure to make Escondido a sanctuary city. I will continue to support our anti-graffiti efforts and our Gang Task Force. Our streets are dangerously close to becoming unsafe.
